Commission procedure

First, with a portrait commission, I listen to the client’s wants, needs and expectations that they have for the portrait. We may discuss a particular setting, clothing, lighting, and size, too.  After outlining these concerns, I set a date and time to take numerous photographs of the subject. After taking a series of photographs, the best ones are picked out using a computer or laptop.  I will usually make several color studies in oil for future reference. During some stage of the painting, I may e-mail the client pictures to let them see how the portrait is progressing.  When the portrait is almost complete, I meet with the client to complete fine details from life if necessary.
